Why horses? The multifaceted benefits of working with horses can be summarized in the following three points. One, horses are herd animals meaning that their survival has always depended on being integral and valuable members of the group (herd). Working with them, we can learn invaluable lessons about teamwork, team flexibility, trust and natural leadership. Second, while role-playing, horses provide honest and instant feedback. Working with them, we learn how to communicate very clearly and effectively, and how to gain their trust. Third, as people are at awe of interacting with a 600kg animal, they mobilize their full intelligence and alertness. The learning experience is very powerful with a profound and lasting impact.

Interacting with horses requires and fosters the same personal qualities that make for effective communication and leadership at work – awareness, clarity, focus, intention, trust, energy, empathy and influence. The process is purely experiential, the learning experience is powerful, and the skills and lessons are immediately transferable to the working environment.

Participants perform different exercises next to or with the horses, under the guidance of scientific staff. They do not ride horses. Indicatively, and depending on the goal of each exercise, they may be asked to lead a horse or horses over obstacles, through a maze, outside of a box etc.

Over the last 15 years, the develpoment of strong and effective teams and skilled successful leaders with the help of horses has been very popular in the USA and Europe.
